Amber Brown Wants Extra Credit
Amber Brown Wants Extra Credit by Paula Danziger is a book that many children can relate to. It is about Divorce, and how everything in Amber’s life is going wrong. Including Amber’s Mom having a new boyfriend who she wants Amber to meet.
You may be wondering then why does Amber Brown Want Extra Credit? Well as a result of Amber’s parents’ divorce, Amber is misbehaving at home and missing assignments at school. Amber also misses her best friend who moved away. She is going through so major life events and she is totally relate-able.
As a parent I really loved this book. The characters are really well developed and relate-able. This book is written in first person but also has dialogue. I really enjoyed the how the characters emotions were expressed throughout the story. While the subject matter seems heavy at a glance, I can see it as a perfect fit for a child who may or may not be going through a parental split. There are parts in this story that is even humorous. Isabella really enjoyed this story even though (we) her parents are not going through a divorce. The story is very well written and the characters are so multi-faceted that it equals a great read.
