Blogger Recognition Award
I am super excited to be writing this post! It has taken me a little bit to get myself together to actually write this out, however, after being nominated a second time I knew I couldn’t delay any longer. I can not express how much this means to me. I have been blogging for a while now and sometimes it is easy to feel like giving up. These award nominations helped me see that I do provide value in the blogosphere!
Before I go any further I need to shout out the two amazing ladies who nominated me for this award.
Maria from iMommy is a beautiful momma both inside and out and such a talented writer who I feel so lucky to get to know. She shares so much on her blog about her personal experiences as a mother and suffering with PPD which I have found to be such an amazing support for some of us moms who may be suffering in silence.
I recently got to know Kristi from Savy Schooling when I was asked to participate in her “Homeschooling in the 50 States…and Beyond” series which is such a good series, if you haven’t checked it out make sure you do! Kristi is an amazing homeschooling mom, supporting, encouraging and inspiring other mommas.
How My Blog Started
I have been a blogger for years! Either writing privately and/ or publicly online. I started Blooming Brilliant which was originally on Blogspot and named Young Mama’s Blog. I wasn’t on social media, I was living a pretty private life focused on finishing school and raising my daughter. I was twenty-one years old, not married and a mom. It was kind of customary for me to be ashamed of my situation, I needed a way to connect with other moms especially moms interested in early education. I found myself blessed with a truly gifted child and my natural love of learning led us on our journey which I wanted to document and share with others. This blog started off as a diary, keeping track of milestones and things we would do together and slowly morphed into what it now is. A place where I share activities, empowerment, inspiration and so much more.
Two Pieces of Advice I Would Give to New Bloggers
- Write about what excites you. You know that feeling you get in your gut when you know you are doing something important? When you write posts, follow that gut feeling. Write about what you know and be you because there is no one else exactly like you! That is so important.
- Nowadays most people are blogging for money first and foremost. I started as a hobby and now enjoy it as a career. Do not blog if it is not something you don’t mind, not getting paid for. If you don’t have a passion for the information you are sharing, for writing or creating content in general than don’t start a blog.
Was that last piece of advice harsh? I don’t mean it to be, it just means there is probably something else that is better for you than sitting behind a computer pushing information you aren’t passionate about.
