Take A Closer Look! An Introduction to Microscopes for Young Scientists
is part of Heron Books Young Scientist series. This book is geared towards children 9-12 years old and it is a truly comprehensive approach to teaching how to use a microscope, using pre-made slides, and how to create your very own slides. We explored the importance of asking questions, setting an intention of what we want to observe and learn, using a science journal, the parts of a microscope, how to set it up, how to focus the lenses, details about the lenses, how to create our own slides, and more.
The chapters are short and simple, very easy to digest and understand. It is also really easy to expand on. The kit we received included an which is the perfect outline to keep students on track, especially if they are working independently.
The package we received also included an exam and answers to the exam to ensure your children have mastered the material. I actually loved how this curriculum had everything planned out for me and my children, it was organized really well and easy to follow. It took so much stress off of me and helped to make learning fun.
