The truth about using MYTEK LAB in your homeschool is your children will become addicted. This is my daughter’s second year taking a MYTEK LAB class, last school year, she tried out Level one and loved every single moment of it, so this school year, it was a give in that she would continue with level two and if you are curious I already paid for her to be enrolled in level three next school year. What Makes MYTEK LAB So Great?

This is my second post about MYTEK LAB, so I feel like I can take a different approach when talking about this class. While I will go into what MYTEK LAB is and how it works, and all the nitty-gritty, I also want to talk to you like you are my best friend, and I am letting you in on this gem of a class that we have been using.

So, that brings us to what makes MYTEK LAB so great? The teachers, Jacky and Stephan Souders make MYTEK LAB the perfect class. Honestly, I cannot see this class work with any other teachers, and let me tell you why. They are both knowledgeable and genuinely kind. They care about each of their students and want to provide the best possible experience for each of them.

While I cannot teach everything in our homeschool, I am so glad that we found Mr. and Mrs. Mytek to lean on when it comes to technology.

More about Mr. and Mrs. MyTek

I call them the MyTeks, but their real names are Jacky and Stephen Souders. Jacky has over ten years of experience teaching children of all ages and a degree in early childhood education, while Stephen has worked in the field of information technology, also known as IT for all you cool cats and kittens, since he was 15 years old! Basically, he is a prodigy when it comes to tech. He has worked in web development, managed an information technology department, and taught college-level classes for over six years.

The MyTeks teach their class with a positive growth mindset, reminding their students (the MyTekians) to trust the process and never give up. Perfection doesn’t exist but always try your best. This aligns with what I want my homeschool to be all about, so I believe it’s the perfect fit for my children.

Why Use MYTEK LAB in Your homeschool

We know that technology is essential in this day and age. It is everywhere. Heck, you are reading this on a piece of technology right now. It is in our everyday lives. We can not wake up and not see a bit of technology within the first five minutes of our day unless we intentionally block it out.

Our kids are growing up with technology as part of their daily lives. They love it and maybe even become addicted to it. Perhaps it’s not our kids, but we all know a kid who is too attached to their iPad or gaming console (it’s totally my kid).

Anyway, it is the present and the future. Technology isn’t going anywhere. It’s only getting more complex (hello, metaverse, and NFTs).

That is why it is essential to give your child positive screen time and allow them to learn the ins and outs of technology, for example.

What is MYTEK LAB

MYTEK LAB offers coding and programming classes for grades three to twelve. I highly recommend that your child has a strong attention span and basic computer skills, like typing.

MYTEK LAB also provides credits toward your child’s high school transcript.

MYTEK LAB offers year-long live classes, which work wonderfully if your child likes to be present while the magic happens, asking questions and gaining insights. Live classes are about an hour long.

If you can’t make it to the live class, don’t fear. Mrs. Jacky will send out the entire course recording within a few hours, which you can watch, pause, and speed up, so Mr. Stephen sounds like a chipmunk. Either option is great.

If you need extra help with an assignment or want to chill out with your fellow MyTekians, make sure to attend their weekly live help sessions, where you can ask questions like “Have you ever heard of Minesweeper?” or questions that actually related to an assignment or technology in general.

If you can’t make it to a Live Help session, Mrs. Jacky and Mr. Stephen have no problem scheduling a one-on-one session so your child can complete their assignments and understand the material to the best of their ability.

How to Use MYTEK LAB

If you are new to MYTEK LAB, you can easily find videos on setting up your account and profile and your students’ accounts and profiles. You can create a free student account to explore the program and receive access to the online simulators and community.

MYTEK LAB works best if you have two monitors or can watch class from a tablet while working on the assignments. However, it is possible to work with one monitor.

A laptop or a desktop running Windows or Mac OS is required. It is recommended to use the Google Chrome web browser.

Everything is in one place. The dashboard is easy to use. Once you are subscribed, you will receive weekly emails 15 minutes before each class starts, including the live help session, when the recordings are posted, and weekly recaps so you know what your children are currently learning.

Classes are held through zoom, and the link is provided in the emails and the course section of the dashboard. Show up early so you don’t miss any shenanigans.

Once the class recording is posted, you can find the assignments, notes, links, and any helpful tips from Mr. Stephen.

How Much Does it Cost

MYTEK LAB is probably the best technology class available, and the prices are affordable for the quality classes they provide. Courses range in price from $49 and $98 a month.

If you cannot afford the class, scholarships are available.

What is TEKnology Lab Level 2 Like

MYTEK LAB Level two should be done after completing level one. It’s a little more complicated than level one because you are typing the code out yourself instead of using blocks. You will work with new applications and create different projects, such as an interactive virtual reality maze or a drawing app. The assignments are open-ended, leaving your students with room to make them as simple or as advanced as your child would prefer.
