High School is quickly approaching, and to say there isn’t some anxiety around it would be an outright lie. I have been researching more and more to find out what options we have when it comes to online high school credits, college credits, and even AP Courses. Homeschooling in New York is not for the faint of heart, regulations are strict here, and that doesn’t change during the high school years of homeschooling. While I am a bit nervous about homeschooling through high school, I know that research and preparation will help relieve my anxiety and help me choose the right path for my child. Homeschooling High School

I pride myself on the fact that we take homeschooling year by year from the very beginning. However, the topic of discussion with my daughter is figuring out what we plan to do for high school. As of now, we are researching what we need to continue our homeschooling journey through high school. One thing that is a necessity is high school credits. Currently, my daughter takes a few classes which offer high school credits that can be put onto her transcript, however, when she actually enters high school she will need many more, and finding the right credits is what we need to figure out.

The number of credits and all the things you need to do in order to complete high school will depend on the path your child chooses to take after high school. Colleges have a variety of requirements, but in order to graduate high school, your child will need about 21 to 28 credits to graduate. High school credits are earned when your child passes a high school subject. They can earn credits for each subject they take, however, there are two types of credits including required credits and elective credits. The required credits are required for everyone and the electives are based on your child’s interests.

Once your child sets their goals they can figure out the path they need to get there. The next step is to explore the course catalog and enroll in courses.
