What is PRIDE Reading Program

PRIDE Reading program is a structured reading program based on the Orton-Gillingham method. The Orton-Gillingham method was specifically designed to help children with dyslexia learn how to read. It incorporates a multisensory approach to teaching children to read, write, and spell, which many fans of the Montessori method can appreciate. This program is geared toward helping children categorized as struggling readers or those with learning differences such as dyslexia or processing or auditory or speech issues.

PRIDE Reading Program consists of six levels including:

  • PRIDE Beginning Consonants Program
  • PRIDE Yellow Book Program Kit – Level 1
  • PRIDE Orange Book Program Kit – Level 2
  • PRIDE Red Book Program Kit – Level 3
  • PRIDE Primary Accelerated Review Program
  • Reading Comprehension Home Program

We got the yellow book program, which is level 1, which includes a student workbook, sound cards, letter tiles, and an activity kit which include a frameless double-sided whiteboard, a black and red marker, a whiteboard eraser, a reading tracker, a game die, and a PRIDE tote.

All of these components are used in the lessons and it makes the learning so much fun.

How does PRIDE Reading Program Work?

All of the lessons are 100% scripted. All you have to do is follow along on the computer. It begins with a Parent or Teacher Training Module, which consists of about 11 short units that help you gain the confidence and understanding to use the curriculum effectively. They are filled with videos, short readings, and questions at each unit’s end to check your knowledge. The videos are beneficial as you can see how each step is taught. Training can take about two hours to complete, but it isn’t a drudgery to sit through, and it is effortless to follow and implement.

Once you have made it through the training, your job now is to follow the script. This is great as it takes only a short time to prep the lesson. I love the script and support that they provide, it helps many of us who don’t feel confident enough to teach our children to read.

The actual scripts are easy to follow, and as you progress through the curriculum, you will gain more and more confidence.

All lessons are broken up into three units, the introduction, the practice, and the reinforcement. It is a good idea to block an hour for your reading lesson, it may go a little quicker depending on your level and your child.

How do I get stared?

If you are interested in trying PRIDE Reading Program with your child, log in to their website and begin with a placement test, just a few short questions, and they will be able to ensure the correct level for your child.

PRIDE Reading Program For Us

When PRIDE Reading Program arrived at our home, my son was thrilled with his new curriculum. He couldn’t wait to get started, and his excitement didn’t go away yet. I love how comprehensive the program is teaching phonics, sounds, spelling, writing, and reading comprehension.

I also love how they incorporate a multisensory approach to meet visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. It is a truly wonderful program to help all children learn to read.

This week has been filled with snow. It's a new mo This week has been filled with snow. It's a new month and it came with a ton of snow. Been shoveling and schleping for days now.

We took like 3 days off of book work from our homeschool this week because dealing with the snow and everything else I am responsible for is exhausting and sometimes self-care looks like slacking a bit.

Dealing with the guilt of slacking a bit is another thing, trying to be in the moment and enjoy these moments with the kids is where it is at. Seeing the smile, and laugh while frolicking in this dreaded snow is where it's at.

It's all about perspective, so find that perspective that makes you happiest.
